ADRB2: Do You Have This Gene That Leads To Larger Fat Cells?

𝗔𝗗𝗥𝗕: 𝗗𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝗧𝗼 𝗟𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗹𝘀!?

This is the 'Beta Adrenal Receptor 2' gene and mutations here lead to LARGER fat cells and higher fat mass - oh joy!

It is involved in carb digestion, appetite & energy expenditure.

Some more FUN Facts about this gene mutation:

▪️ Fat is less likely to be burned by high intensity exercise
▪️ Leads to high insulin levels, insulin resistance and associated body fat
▪️ More likely to gain weight from eating carbs than ‘normal’ people
▪️ Slower movement of food through GI tract therefore more calories absorbed and more weight gained {told you calorie equations aren't fitting!}
▪️ Having this mutation also leads to poorer stress response, increased negative emotions, and increased risk of PTSD from trauma

➡️ I have this mutation myself and it may explain why I never noticed results from working out with a personal trainer 3X a week for over a year!

➡️ 20.43% of population have this mutation

Do You Have Signs of the FABP2 Obesity Gene?

𝗗𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗔𝗕𝗣 𝗢𝗯𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲?

This is the 'Fatty Acid Binding Protein 2."

FABP2 is known to increase fat absorption in the intestine,

So if you have a mutation here, you absorb more fat from each meal than a ‘normal’ person does!!!! How lucky!?

{See - I told you - those stupid calories in vs. calories out models of weight loss don't apply to everyone equally!}

Mutation leads to increased rate of transportation and absorption of fat

25.34% of population has this mutation

Top Signs You May Have the MC4R Obesity Gene

𝗠𝗖𝗥: 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗢𝗯𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲

This is the 'Melanocortin 4 Receptor' gene and it regulates appetite and metabolism,

So a mutation here leads to slow metabolism, increased appetite / hunger, increased insulin, and a desire to snack often.

24% of population have this mutation

Mutation here is responsible for 6 - 8% of severe obesity

𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗖𝗥 𝗠𝘂𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:

FTO: Do You Have This Common Obesity Gene?

𝗙𝗧𝗢: 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 "𝗢𝗯𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲"?

In yesterday's post I mentioned the top 5 gene mutations that can contribute to increased risk of obesity / overweight.

Luckily none of them are set in stone.

Each have signs that you may have them; ways they can increase our weight; and exactly what we can do about them to prevent their effects.

As I said I have 3 out of 5 and FTO is one of them!

In fact 34.01% (more than 1/3) of the population has this gene mutation.

If you want to find out EXACTLY which 'obesity genes' you have, you can do a simple cheek swab test through @kashilabs for their 'Weight Management Panel," available through your holistic provider.

I have run this lab on myself and clients. They are the ones generously providing the statistics and info here. Not sponsored, just awesome.

Do You Have One of the Five Overweight Genes?

𝗗𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲  𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲  𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀?

There are 5 genetic mutations associated with obesity and weight gain and making both of them much more likely to happen -

IF we aren't taking care of these genes in the right way!

Fun Fact: I have THREE of them! And I have one (LEAN!) friend that has all 5!! However although obesity runs in her family, she ensures to stay extremely active and eating healthy and has no issues.

Why? Because these genes are not 'destiny,' as majority of the time, genes never are.

It's knowing how to interact with, deal with & SUPPORT them that creates our destinies.

More Fun Facts:

Is Your Life Even Structured to Maintain Weight Loss?

𝐈𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐬?

My clients go through an entire module on the STRUCTURES needed to both create weight loss and sustain a new weight, including:

- Your schedule is structured to protect your time (and weight!)

- Your commitments in said schedule are a F*ck yes! Level commitments you resonate with, in line with your values (vs. doing a lot of stuff you hate / just trying to people please / feel like you 'have to') your schedule has ROOM for wt loss

- You have decluttered your environment so your mind isn't filled with clutter blocking your success

- You have the right TOOLS at your disposal, and easy to access - like the proper footwear for workouts, the proper attire, the proper food prep and food storage tools, the proper supplements, the right exercise equipment etc

- You have well-designed systems in place like a gym bag always prepped and ready to go,...

Why The Right (Masculine) Container Is Everything for Weight Loss

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 (𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞) 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐬

Just over a month ago, my wonderfully sexy handsome Man & I bought our first home together.

And I have to say, the right container, the right STRUCTURE - is. EVERY. Damn. Thing.

I did not realize how my life still felt so messy and chaotic and disorganized in certain ways and places, simply because we had no freaking space. No domains. No appropriate STRUCTURE for things.

Like I had all my jewellery in a giant freaking pile in my old closet, and now it's hanging in this beautiful jewellery organizer that I *actually* have room for in a house. It's super easy to grab and see and use and keep clean and tidy.

Weight loss is NO different.

Taking a convoluted, messy approach becomes chaotic, frustrating and ineffective.

Taking an over-complicated approach is ineffective.

Taking a NON STRUCTURED approach is ineffective.

I Had No Idea How Much Brain Power I Was Spending On My Weight - And the Impact That Has

"𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗻𝗼 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁."

In our new client onboarding calls, I often speak with women about how often they've been thinking about their weight, how many times per day.

"I think about it the minute I wake up and try to get dressed, and nothing fits. Or I have a whole section of my closet I can't wear anymore. Or I try on something that used to fit really well and doesn't now.

"I think about it the minute I see myself in the mirror when I go to shower.

I think about it at breakfast when I'm deliberating over food choices. Same with lunch, dinner, even snacks. I can't remember the last time I let myself have a dessert and just ENJOY it.

I think about it when I go to work. Every time I meet a new client I wonder how they see me. I wonder if I'm putting my best foot forward. I wonder if my physical body is representative of who I really am...

Why Women's Bodies Don't Respond to Men's Weight Loss Methods

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼 𝗠𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀:

Women are biologically designed to carry a pregnancy and breastfeed a baby.

Men, are not.

As a result, women have certain hormonal override features that PROTECT certain areas of fat, from being tapped into for fuel.

Why? Because that fat is FOR THE BABY. Our bodies literally don't even 'see' it let alone access it, unless we are breastfeeding and EVEN THEN -

I've met SO many women, who have become so hormonally imbalanced - they don't even tap into that fat then either!

Simply using a Man's approach of 'eat less and exercise more' doesn't work the same for women, for THIS specific reason.

Men are designed to be Hunters. To go for long periods without food. To easily tap into body fat as fuel.

Women are designed to be Gatherers. To be child rearing all day long, moving about slowly most of the time. Possibly...
